Rajiv Tewari of the VANSTHAL organization, located in the city of Kaluchak in the Jammu & Kashmir region of India, recently contacted EARTHWARD to request donations of children's books and magazines (ages 5 - 15) for a children's library project in the city of Poonch, Jammu & Kashmir. Rajiv has assembled two local graduates to work with the children, and in his words, "The kids know alphabets, rules of grammar etc. however they don't know what is happening in the civilized world." According to Rajiv, "The ultimate goal is to wean the children from religious fundamentalism."
EARTHWARD has contacted, by telephone, a woman whose contact information was provided by Rajiv. She confirmed that she knew Rajiv, and that he is involved with an NGO trying to supply English books to local children, one of whom is her daughter. If you have any books or magazines that your children have outgrown, we encourage you to donate them to this very worthy cause.
