Other Worthy Causes

Turn your vision earthward -
'Tis we must lend a hand.

We consider our Mission, as described in our Organization Documents, a promise to our donors and the general public.  As such, we will not apply donated funds to projects beyond the scope of that mission.  We do recognize, however, that there are various very urgent and worthy humanitarian causes that fall outside that range.  Perhaps, for example, they involve religious intolerance, but not violence, or violence that is not primarily religiously motivated.  This page serves to inform our viewers of such causes, and encourage them to participate, either as individuals or in conjunction with other organizations, with efforts to contribute to their resolution.

Darfur Devastation  (1/10/07)
Despite intentions to step up their joint activities in the coming year, by the UN and the African Union, to diffuse the crisis in Darfur, prospects for success appear limited, due to meager global support.  For example, military helicopters provided by contributing nations have fallen far short of the number determined by the UN to be needed.  We urge viewers to contact their representatives and demand further action by their governments, such as supplying more helicopters, to help resolve the situation.  Amnesty International features a mail form (click here) for US citizens who would like to contact their representatives.  Please see BBC's Sudan news page, for details on the Darfur conflict.

Stop Child Executions (1/10/07)
We heartily endorse the work of Nazanin Afshin-Jam and others to bring an end child executions.  Shariah law has been repeatedly cited as justification for child executions in Iran and elsewhere.  Please see  http://www.stopchildexecutions.com/ for details, and support all efforts to end this barbaric practice.

Holy Neglect (1/10/07)
Sadly, children sometimes suffer and die from devastating and often incurable diseases such as leukemia or cerebral palsy.  Even more sadly, they also sometimes die from someone elses disease, their parents' faith.  The organization CHILD (click here for details) has dealt with numerous cases of children unnecessarily succumbing to a variety of ailments, having been denied critically needed medical attention, because of their parents submission to "God's will."  Please support CHILD's outstanding activities.
